Midget Grade



Years:
(7-8 yrs) as at September 1st of enrolment year.

Venue:
All games at Whakatiki Street Park.

When:
Sat. 8:30 -10.45am.

Game:
A Round Robin style of cricket with everyone getting the same chance to bat and bowl. Equal participation style of cricket played with soft ball a (Incrediball). This is a step up from Midget. Games are slightly longer and skills are starting to develop. Children are not dismissed when they go out but runs are added to the opposition team's score. Wides and No balls result in extras. Pairs of batters bat for a total of 4 overs (2 each). . Like "Have-A-Go" and Kiwi it is still a family occasion with most parents on the sideline or helping out. Towards the end of the season, those children who will moving into the U10 grade the following season are introduced the hard ball and all the protective gear. The emphasis is on maintaining interest in the game, basic skills, parent participation and fun.

Clothing:
Preferably white clothes (shorts and T shirt or polo shirt) and a hat.

Gear:
All gear provided by the club. Some children have their own bats.

Protective equipment:
None required.

Rules:
See Rules/Scoring for Midget Grade. Note: JCUH Midget rules may vary slightly from the Wellington handbook.

Teams:
Teams of 8-10 are chosen by convenor to try and put kids with other children they might know

Draw:
Maximum 18 games per season (usually loose 4 through wet weather). Draw done by convenor. No overall winning team.

Cancellations:
NewsTalk ZB at 7.30 and 7 and 7.30am as, "Junior Cricket Upper Hutt Have-A-Go at Harcourt Park, Kiwi Grade at Maidstone Park and Midget Grade at Whakatiki Street Park are cancelled"
