RE: Under 11 – Under 14 Representative Selection
 
Dear Junior Club Convenor,
 
There has been significant feedback about the proposed Under 11 – Under 14 selection tournaments, much of it centering on the difficulties faced in getting teams organised for such tournaments, clashes with closing dates of primary schools, and parental availability as coaches and managers of club teams.
 
Cricket Wellington has decided to abandon attempts to organise any such selection tournament in the 2004-05 season. There will be no zone or club tournament in the 2004-05 season.
 
Cricket Wellington will organise and facilitate a series of talent identification opportunities and trials for Hutt Valley and Wellington Under 11 – Under 14 representative teams. The process for this will be:

<li>Clubs and colleges are to nominate players at each age grade that they believe merit the opportunity to be considered for representative selection. Nomination forms are to be returned to Cricket Wellington by 5pm Friday November 12.</li>
<li>Nominated players will be invited to one of two talent identification opportunities. Details of the talent identification opportunities are:
 
Hutt Valley Under 11 
Sunday November 28, 9 – 11am, Cricket Academy, Hutt Rec 
Sunday December 5, 9 – 11am, Cricket Academy, Hutt Rec
 
Hutt Valley Under 12 
Sunday November 28, 11.30am – 1.30pm, Cricket Academy, Hutt Rec 
Sunday December 5, 11.30am – 1.30pm, Cricket Academy, Hutt Rec
 
Hutt Valley Under 13 
Sunday November 28, 2 - 4pm, Cricket Academy, Hutt Rec 
Sunday November 28, 4.30 – 6.30pm, Cricket Academy, Hutt Rec
 
Hutt Valley Under 14 
Sunday November 28, 7 - 9pm, Cricket Academy, Hutt Rec 
Sunday December 5, 2-4pm, Cricket Academy, Hutt Rec

<li>Following these talent identification opportunities, two trial teams will be picked at the Under 11, Under 12 and Under 14 age grades for both Hutt Valley and Wellington. These teams will each play a trial game on Sunday December 12, i.e. a Hutt Valley trial and a Wellington trial at each age grade. The postponement date for these trial games is Sunday December 19.
 
 Trial teams and game details will be posted on the Cricket Wellington website on Tuesday December 7 and boys chosen for trial teams will be contacted.
 
 At the Under 13 level, two trial teams will be picked for both Hutt Valley and Wellington on Monday November 29. These teams will each play a trial game on Sunday December 5, i.e. a Hutt Valley Under 13 trial and a Wellington Under 13 trial. Wellington and Hutt Valley Under 13 teams will be named on Monday December 6 and will travel to Wanganui to play in the Central Districts Under 13 district tournament on Sunday December 19.

<li>Wellington and Hutt Valley Under 11, Under 12 and Under 14 teams will be named in the week following the trials.</li>
<li>Representative games for Wellington and Hutt Valley Under 11 – Under 14 teams are:
 
 Under 11 and Under 12 
 Sunday February 13 Wellington v Hutt Valley 
 Sunday February 27 Wellington v Hutt Valley 
 Sunday March 6 Wellington v Hutt Valley
 
 Under 13 
 Monday December 20 – Wednesday December 22 
 Hutt Valley and Wellington teams will participate in the Central Districts Under 13 District Tournament in Wanganui 
 
 Sunday February 27 Wellington v Hutt Valley
 
 Under 14 
 Two games in February/March for both Hutt Valley and Wellington teams against Central Districts district sides (dates and teams to be confirmed)
 
 Two games in February/March between Hutt Valley and Wellington (dates to be confirmed)
 
 Representative selectors, coaches and managers

Applications for Hutt Valley and Wellington Under 11, Under 12, Under 13 and Under 14 selectors, coaches and managers for the 2004-05 season are being sought. All current selectors, coaches and managers have been contacted to inform them of this process.
 
An important note is that relatives or caregivers of boys cannot apply for coaching or selecting positions in the age grade that the boy is in.
 
An application form for these positions is attached. Please pass this form onto junior club personnel. All applications must be received by 5pm Friday November 12.
