End of season goals for Coaches:Please note – the goals outlined below are totally dependent on the skills and learning ability of the children in your team. They are not compulsory and you as a coach are under no obligation to achieve them. They are provided as a guide for you as a coach so you know your children have developed the skills necessary to advance to Midget grade.

Batting
- Children are clear whether they are right or left-handed.
- The correct grip is used and children present the full face of the bat to the ball.
- Stance is side-on, feet and body alignment is correct.
- Backswing is straight back.
- Children can hit a ball straight down the wicket off a batting tee.
- Children can ‘pull’ a ball down legside off a high tee.
- Batters can hit a stationary ball.
- Batters move to the ball and attempt to hit it.
- Children can run between wickets without colliding.
- They know to get their bat on the ground and behind the first line (popping crease) when completing a run.
- Non-strikers are ready to run and some may be starting to walk down the wicket once the bowler bowls (backing-up).
- Some batters look for the second run and take it.
- Batters know the 3 ways they can be out.
- Feet alignment is correct.
- Basic “windmill” static bowling action is mastered.
- Ball is released at ’11 o’clock’.
- Throwing (bowling with bent elbow) is minimal.
- Ball still bouncing when it reaches the batter.
- Wides are less than 1/3rd of the total balls bowled.
- Players know to rotate positions.
- Fielders move to the ball.
- Players can demonstrate the basics of good throwing (side-on action, feet, use of wrist, arm and body).
- Returns to the wicket are ‘reasonably’ accurate.
- Children can ‘relay throw’ to retrieve a ball from the boundary.
- Children know the correct use of hands when catching.
- Some children can take catches.
- Wicketkeepers stay with their wickets and put the stumps between them and the in-coming ball.
- Children know what a run-out is and how it is achieved.
