The TCST recognizes that the success of an indoor sporting facility rests, not only on the quality of the building but also on the extent of its use and the quality of programs offered within the facility. The Trust plans to establish special relationships with sports clubs and activity groups using centre and within these relationships offer special help with the coaching of the group’s particular sport or activity. The aim will be to ensure any coaching programs offered by the Trust are based on the needs and interests of user groups.
The Trust has already entered into a special home relationship with Junior Cricket Upper Hutt Inc. and, therefore it is appropriate that the early emphasis will be on developing cricket coaching. In 2002 the Trust provided a two month coaching program focused on the coaching and training requirements of Junior Cricket Upper Hutt. This program was funded by the New Zealand Community Trust and the Totara Lodge Community Trust. In 2002-2003 this program will again be offered and expanded to cater for all the colleges in the Upper Hutt region. In this way the Trust hopes that the link between Junior Cricket, the colleges of upper Hutt and the Upper Hutt United Cricket Club will be fostered resulting in greater numbers of players ending up playing for the Upper Hutt United Senior Cricket Club
