Rules

for the Have-A-Go Grades

Have-A-Go Grades Playing Conditions:

Remember: the game is for the children, not the coaches and parents. Coaches are reminded to be as inclusive as possible of every team member:

ELEIGIBILITY
The Have-A-Go grade is for children 5 - 6 years as at the 1 September of the season in question.

TIME
Games begin at 9 am and take approx an hour. With each team facing 8 overs. There is a very small two-minute break in between innings

EQUIPMENT
Equipment required comprises of: Stumps, Incrediball, Small wooden bats

PITCH
A 16 pitch is used. A 25m boundary is used

TEAM
Each team consists of 8 players.

BATTING
  • Batters bat in pairs. Each pair receives two overs no matter how many times they are out.
  • Coaches / Scorers need to ensure each batter faces the same amount of deliveries (8). Often batters will need to switch ends during an over to achieve this.
BOWLING
  • Bowlers bowl one over of 8 deliveries no matter how many no balls or wides are bowled.
  • All bowlers bowl from one end only.
  • There are no front or back foot no balls. If a bowler is clearly having trouble reaching the other end of the pitch on the first bounce, the umpire should assist by making the blower move down the pitch closer to the batter. This rule is NOT to be used to enable good bowlers to gain an advantage by delivering the ball closer to the batter.
WIDES / NO BALLS
  • Wides and no balls are counted as an extra two runs to the batting side (they are not rebowled.
  • If the batting team runs extras off a no ball or wide these are added to the score as well.
  • A wide is called if the ball passes the facing batter off the pitch on either the on or off sides. If the batter hits the wide it is NOT a wide.
  • A no ball is called if the ball passes over the batters waist on the full when he/her is in their normal stance.
  • The two-bounce rule does not apply. If a delivery does not reach the batter he/she is permitted to have a free hit at the ball. Fielders are not to pick up a stationary ball, they must allow the batter to have a free hit.
DISMISSALS
  • A batter can be run out, caught or clean bowled. This is recorded as an X in the score sheet although the batter continues until he has faced his 8 balls.
  • A batter CANNOT be out by: LBW, Stumped or Hit wicket.
FIELDING
  • Fielders including the wicket keeper rotate clockwise after every over, thus each player fields in every position including having a turn wicket keeping and bowling.
  • No fielder other than the wicket keeper is to be within a 10m circle of the batter on strike.
BOUNDARIES
The usual four and six run boundary applies. Once the ball has crossed the boundary the ball is dead the no more runs can be scored. A 4 or 6 is recorded in the score sheet.

WINNING
  • The winning team is the team with the most runs.
  • Should both teams run equal the team with the least amount of wickets taken is the winner.
